Gundam: The Origin Anime Compilation Films Coming September 13

Fans of the Gundam franchise have much to look forward to as Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin is getting a series of compilation films, beginning on September 13, 2024. These films will condense the critically acclaimed six-episode OVA (Original Video Animation) series, which serves as a prequel to the original 1979 Mobile Suit Gundam. 

The Origin series focuses on the early life of Char Aznable, the iconic antagonist, and the rise of the Zabi family in the One Year War. With a revamped narrative and stunning animation, these compilation films are set to bring new and old fans alike back into the world of Gundam.

Rise of Char Aznable

Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin covers the backstory of Char Aznable, also known as the Red Comet. Born as Casval Rem Deikun, Char is the son of the influential leader Zeon Zum Deikun, whose assassination sparks the power struggle within the Principality of Zeon. 

The films showcase Char’s transformation from a young boy seeking revenge for his father’s death into one of the most formidable pilots in the Gundam universe. His rise to prominence, fueled by his hatred for the Zabi family, sets the stage for his eventual role in the One Year War. 

Revisiting Key Mobile Suit Battles

In addition to Char’s personal journey, the compilation films will cover key battles that shaped the course of the One Year War. The politics within the Principality of Zeon, led by the Zabi family, plays a significant role, as Dozle, Gihren, Kycilia, and Garma Zabi each scheme for control. 

Fans can expect to see some of the most memorable mobile suit battles, including the introduction of early Zeon prototypes like the Zaku I and Zaku II, along with the rise of Earth Federation forces. The cinematic battles, expertly choreographed and beautifully animated, are a major draw for long-time fans of the series.
