Blue Exorcist Manga Goes on Hiatus

On September 4, 2024, Blue Exorcist manga author Kazue Katō announced via her X account that the series will be taking a brief hiatus. The manga will not appear in the October issue of Shueisha's Jump SQ. magazine.

This break is due to Katō’s recent surgery and ongoing recovery process. Fans of Blue Exorcist were informed that the manga would be on hold until its return in the magazine's December issue, slated for release on November 4, 2024.

Author's Health Update

Katō shared her personal health situation, explaining that she recently underwent an operation and needs time to recover. While no specific details about the nature of her illness or the surgery were provided, she reassured fans that her recovery is progressing well and that the hiatus is temporary. 

The decision to take a break, although difficult, is a necessary step to ensure her health improves fully before returning to work on the series. Fans were quick to offer words of support, wishing her a smooth and speedy recovery.

Impact on Blue Exorcist

Blue Exorcist, which has been serialized in Jump SQ. since 2009, is a long-running dark fantasy series featuring the story of Rin Okumura, a teenager who discovers he is the son of Satan. Struggling with his demonic heritage, Rin enrolls at True Cross Academy to become an exorcist and fight against the forces of evil. 

Fans will need to wait a bit longer for the continuation of the latest chapter, which left many on a cliffhanger. However, the break ensures that Kazue Katō can return in full health and continue delivering the high-quality storytelling that Blue Exorcist is known for.
