BBC Acquires 1000 Episodes of One Piece - Releasing Tomorrow September 1

The BBC has made a significant move by acquiring over 1000 episodes of One Piece, the beloved anime series based on Eiichiro Oda's globally renowned manga. For the first time in the UK, fans can access English-dubbed episodes of the long-running series exclusively on BBC iPlayer. 

The acquisition comes as part of the 25th-anniversary celebrations for One Piece, which has captivated audiences worldwide with its exciting adventures, deep characters, and enthralling storylines. This marks the BBC as the only platform offering dubbed versions of the anime in the UK.

What’s Available on BBC iPlayer

The saga of One Piece follows Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates on their journey to find the legendary treasure, One Piece, to make Luffy the King of the Pirates. 

BBC iPlayer will host ten major sagas, starting with the release of three sagas—East Blue, Alabasta, and Skypiea—which consist of 206 episodes in total, launching on September 1, 2024. Over the course of the year, all 1085 episodes will be released, covering these iconic sagas:

  • East Blue
  • Alabasta 
  • Sky Island (Skypiea) 
  • Water Seven 
  • Thriller Bark
  • Summit War
  • Fishman Island
  • Dressrosa
  • Whole Cake Island
  • Land of Wano

An Exciting Move for UK Fans

Fiona Campbell, Controller of Youth Audiences for BBC iPlayer and BBC Three, expressed her excitement for this collaboration, stating that One Piece is not just an anime but a cultural phenomenon with a massive fanbase. 

This deal will introduce UK viewers to the legendary adventures of Luffy and his crew. With captivating storytelling, rich character arcs, and stunning animation from Toei, One Piece has earned its place as one of the highest-rated shows on IMDb, boasting a 9.0/10 user rating as of 2024.

Fans of the anime can now add One Piece to their iPlayer watchlists and prepare for the epic adventures that lie ahead. Starting from September, viewers can dive into the world of pirates, mysteries, and thrilling battles that have defined this series for over two decades​.
